Generating a Knowledge Base
Content Generation is where the magic happens. KnowStack's AI analyzes all your collected data and produces a structured, well-organized Knowledge Base. The process follows a four-step wizard that guides you through the entire generation.
Step 1: Choose Data Sources
The first screen shows all your collected data organized by source type: Websites, Emails, Documents, Meetings, Telegram, and Slack. Each source card shows the available items with checkboxes.
- Review each source card. Items that are available for selection will have checkboxes.
- Check individual items within each source to include them. For example, you might include some crawled websites but not others.
- The total count of selected items updates in real time at the bottom of the page.
- Once you have selected at least one item, the 'Continue to Review' button becomes active.
- Click 'Continue to Review' to proceed to the next step.
You do not need to include all sources in every KB. Create focused Knowledge Bases by selecting only the most relevant data. For example, create a 'Product KB' using only your product website and product documentation.
Step 2: Review and Configure
The review step lets you configure how the KB will be generated. You will see several configuration cards:
- Knowledge Base Title -- Give your KB a memorable name (optional, but recommended). Example: 'Company Knowledge Base Q1 2025'.
- Output Language -- Choose the language for the generated content. The AI will write all sections in your chosen language, regardless of the source data language.
- Selected Data Sources -- A summary of everything you selected in Step 1.
- Sections to Generate -- Toggle individual sections on or off. By default, 9 standard sections are enabled. You can also add custom sections with your own titles and descriptions.
- Estimated Cost -- An estimate of the AI processing cost based on your selected data volume. This shows estimated token count and cost range.
Customizing Sections
The AI generates up to 9 default sections covering common business knowledge areas. You can:
- Toggle off -- Disable any default section that is not relevant to your use case
- Add custom sections -- Click 'Add Custom Section' and provide a title and description. The AI will generate content for this section based on your data.
- Reorder -- Custom sections appear after the default sections
Step 3: Generate
Click 'Generate Knowledge Base' to start the AI processing. You will see a real-time progress screen showing:
- Overall progress bar with percentage
- Per-section progress showing which section is currently being generated
- Generation status (processing, completed, or error)
- Estimated time remaining
Do not close the browser tab during generation. While the process runs in the background on the server, the progress display only updates while you are on the page. You will receive a notification when generation is complete.
Step 4: Done
Once generation completes, you will see a success message with a 'View Knowledge Base' button. Click it to go directly to your new KB on the Knowledge Base page.
